Altec Lansing inMotion iMini [£110]ay
As you've probably guessed from the title, only iPod Mini owners need apply for an Altec Lansing inMotion iMini. Powered via the mains or batteries, the iMini is a slick piece of kit. Its streamlined, suitcase-friendly design transforms at the touch of a button: a small pedestal drops down, on to which your Mini slots into position. A word of warning though: it's not very stable and the slightest knock can send it toppling over.
The iMini weighs in with an admirable performance. There's a fine clarity and a relatively detailed and insightful sound. However, things are a touch thin in the upper mid-range and treble compared to the best in this group. And there just isn't enough solidity in vocals in tunes.
The iMini is worth considering but I'd suggest checking out its more expensive bigger brother, the iM3. The latter sounds better and you get a remote control. What's more, it only costs £20 more. I reckon it's worth the pennies.
Pros
- Attractice, portable design
- Doubles up as a docking station
- Detail and clarity
Cons
- Doesn't sound as accomplished as the iM3
- Only designed for iPod Mini
Verdict
An inoffensive offering for iPod Mini owners, the Altec Lansing inMotion iMini is not the most convincing system..
