Altec Lansing inMotion iM3 iPod Dock [£130]

If you're sucker for features, then the Altec Lansing inMotion iM3 speaker system has its rivals licked. First, it's portable - simply add four AA batteries to the equation. Secondly, if you're on holiday, the iM3 conviniently comes with plug adapters for Europe, USA and Australia/New Zealand.

Then there's the selection of cradles to suit all types of iPod, including the iPod Mini and early iPods except the 30GB iPod Photo. Altec Lansing states that the latest versions do come with a Photo-compatible dock. You even get a remote control, which slots away neatly in the unit.

Given its size, the iM3 sounds precise and focused, mixing detail with composure. Even a bass-heavy tracks manages to exude plenty of sparkle, although it could do with some more bass.

If your budget can't stretch to more expensive products like the Bose SoundDock, the iM3 is definitely a great choice.

Verdict

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM3 is a jack of all trades that even masters a couple.
