Klipsch iGroove iPod Dock [£200]

The Klipsch iGroove is a neat, one-piece with a pleasing ergonomic curve to the case work. It's fairly well built, though the silver paoint job doesn't actually do its appearance any favours - several of the iGroove's rivals look a lot classier in my view.

That said, the Klipsch has a lot going for it: there's a neat little remote from which you can control volume and flick through tracks. It also has a handy feature for owners of other, non-Apple products - an extra 'J-Cup' adaptor which allows you to use it with just about any other MP3 player on the market. The curved fascia conceals twin 6.5cm fibre-composite mid/bass drivers and 25mm tweeters.

The performance is enthusiastic and, it goes pretty loud. However, this isn't the most subtle speaker systems: the bloated bass and thin treble create a sound that becomes messy and dense - and the subtleties of a tune are lost.

Pros

  • Decent design

  • Strong built

  • Usable with non-Apple MP3 players

  • Enthusiastic performance

Cons

  • Unimpressive finish

  • Slightly overbearing bass performance

  • Treble can get thin

Verdict

The Klipsch iGroove is a reasonably appealing product, but there are similarly-priced rivals that are classier.
